Equine Hanna Somatics

~The Sacred Horse~

Equine Hanna Somatics is a gentle neuroscience-based movement method that helps horses to lower their resting muscle tone (aka chronic muscle tension) by initiating the natural reflex of pandiculation, which facilitates them making lasting changes to their posture, performance and wellbeing from within their own nervous system. The practice of doing Equine Hanna Somatics, (EHS), with a horse is very meditative and a strong bonding experience for both the horse and the human facilitator, this can even include the owner watching.

While not targeting trauma specifically, EHS helps horses to reestablish normal self-regulatory processes so the body-mind (we call it Soma) can return to optimal function and state. The trauma release is a valuable side-benefit! This work is based on Hanna Somatic Education, (was developed for humans first)so it can also be done for people too! EHS is horse-centered, requires active voluntary participation (aka consent) from the horse, and is incredibly complimentary to any training method or other treatment methods they are currently receiving.

My approach is to work with horses to help them both become more sound, stimulate brain growth in the areas involved in Feel and to find joy in movement again. I would like to encourage owner/rider to also learn the basic somatic movement exercises to experience the wonderful sensation of body tension release and balance. I will offer the owners to learn a basic daily somatic session to support their horses and which will enhance their relationship! Plus, I also offer individual private sessions of Hanna Somatics for the owners and riders to help their mind and body, as well!
