Somatic Exercise ~ Movement Therapy
Breathe ~ Sense ~ Move
The term somatic means of or relating to the living body. Soma means “the body as perceived from within.”
Thomas Hanna developed Hanna Somatics. He discovered his somatic movement education as a student with Moshe Feldenkrais.
Hanna Somatic Exercise is a neuromuscular learning(re-learning). It engages the nervous system into an active learning process. With very slow, gentle, focused and conscious movements that teach and/or remind your nervous system how to release Chronic Muscle Contraction.
Each Private Clinical Session begins with an assessment. The practitioner will assess your posture and gait. Visual assessment and possibly a palpation of muscles will help the practitioner to decide which course of action to approach. Clinical sessions are gentle, slow, safe, and appropriate for all ages and all physical and fitness levels. Each session typically lasts an hour but the first session may take an hour and half.
